Rear and loft extension to a Victorian terraced house in East London
Status: Planning Approved
A rear ground floor extension and loft conversion transforms the space plan of this Victorian terrace house into a garden-focused living sequence.
The siting of the ground floor extension, and the shifting form of its roofplane, are such to protect and enhance the daylight and outlook of the basement and ground levels. Covered in a living roof system, the upper floors' outlook is enhanced greenery.
Blackened timber cladding wraps the perimeter of new elements, either as a solid or open-battened system depending on the level of daylight, thermal performance or privacy each plane requires. This achieve a consistent yet changeable wrapping that contributes to the original Victorian pattern and detail.
