Library Stair
A spiral stair and tall shelving create a library with mezzanine bed platform
Status: Completed 2016
Location: Kentish Town West
Category: Interiors
The apartment, part of a Victorian school conversion, is striking for its near 4m ceilings and large windows. Capturing these features, a spiral stair was introduced to access a mezzanine bed platform to achieve a multi functional spare bedroom / library space.
The open rise and balustrade of the stair maintain a lightness; the metal construction make visual link to the original steel framed windows.
Elsewhere, white sprayed joinery allow storage to blend with the simple white palette of the flat. This balance of detail and simplicity allows the owners extensive art collection to maintain prominence.
