A ground floor and loft extension enlarge an existing residence to provide a new garden room master bedroom.
Location: Muswell Hill
An Edwardian terrace is enlarged with a ground floor and loft dormer extension. Bronze toned casement cladding is contemporary yet sensitive to the existing brick work. Cheek windows set into the cladding provide manual ventilation and a form of playful interaction with the new elements. A large triangular roof light is the feature of the new living space. It is angled to capture flanking east and west light to overcome the North site aspect. The new living room steps 60cm below the current finished floor level. This allows seating to be set flush into the threshold, and allows the living to spill out onto the lower level rear garden. Cranked continuous steps preserve the footprint of an existing mature shrub.
