8-unit residential development
Status: Planning Granted
Category: New Build
Bridge Street presented the opportunity to repair an erratic street elevation with a new infill development , marrying the disparate styles of a Georgian listed corner building and a 1960's modernist block.
Eight 1 & 2 bedroom units with balcony and terrace amenity are achieved on the site. Each benefits from dual aspect, high ceilings and large windows to capture natural daylight and cross ventilation. The building angles in massing and projects with balconies to capture sunlight and district views to outdoor spaces. Outdoor spaces are generously sized and sheltered to provide highly usable private amenity that is an extension of the internal living provision.
Bridge Street facade continues the regular grid of vertical openings that is characteristic to each adjoining neighbour.
The stacked and staggered form provides a visually arresting impression from key vantages including Staines Bridge. The primary bulk of the proposal is aligned to the three storey datum of Clarence House, with a fourth floor set back and shifting in alignment from the lower portion to be more continuous with Provident House. This drawing out of the rhythm, style and siting of each neighbour localises the development and rewards the setting with a critically responsive development.
